All praise to some West Vancouver councillors for a good night's work Monday - stiffing a fool plan for Argyle Avenue, and elsewhere listening to Eden Place residents.

Dear Editor: During the pipeline debate Ms. Woodsworth of the Georgia Strait Alliance's vivid presentation has supposedly illustrated the enormous increase in the oil spill risks if we allow the increase in the tanker traffic.

Monday was a red-letter day for the North Shore, not to mention the rest of Canada.

Dear Editor: Regarding the Marine Drive corridor planning: The flaws in too much floor space, mayor and councillors, is obviously a flaw in the way bylaws are written — too open to interpretation and too lax to be enforced on the intended limits.

Dear Editor: The Sept. 24 visit of Fisheries Minister Gail Shea to the North Shore was more than a response to the letter published only two weeks before by John Fraser and Dave Brown (Feds Must Act on Cohen Report, Sept 15).

Once again, the Conservative government charged blindly into ideological battle this week with a decision to deny heroin to Vancouver addicts involved in a clinical research project.

"There's a very real possibility that somebody is going to get shot. That terrifies us." North Vancouver RCMP spokesman Cpl. Doug Trousdell discuses the dangers of realistic looking pellet guns (from an Oct. 2 news story). "We all did this together.

West Vancouver - Dear Editor: The kids and grandkids of West Vancouver will be so surprised now that the play area at John Lawson Park is finally open.

North Vancouver - Dear Editor: I have been planning to contact the rail companies for some time on whistle noise and in particular regarding the area of the Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows Crossing.

West Vancouver - Dear Editor: I agree with everything Dwight Jones said in his Sept. 18 letter, Let the Mountain Speak.Something can be done to reduce noise. We have to let our elected representatives know how we feel.
