The dog days of summer are upon us, a lazy, languid time for swimming, beaches and a break from the grind. August heat — it makes so many of us want to engage in serious debates about pressing national issues. Or perhaps not.

Dear Editor: Re: Clean Water Not a Commodity to be Bottled for Profit , July 29 Mailbox. I would like to reassure your readers that water in B.C. is a public resource not owned by private interests, and that will not change under our government.

Dear Editor: Construction on the new West Vancouver police services building (on the municipal hall site at 750 17th St.) begins shortly and will last until the end of 2017 — approximately two and a half years.

Dear Editor: I woke up at 1:30 a.m. this morning because of the heat. It’s only (mid-summer) and the forests are already tinder dry. My family lives on Indian Arm where we rely on creek water for our water supply.

Dear Editor: On Monday (July 21) I was trimming roses in a friend’s garden in the 2700-block of Lonsdale. I got into a dizzy spell, then I decided to stop.

Wanted: a leader of one of the most highly criticized organizations in Greater Vancouver. Must be willing to live in a fishbowl and have your every move scrutinized while you work to solve one of the thorniest issues facing the region.

Dear Editor: Re: Ridgeway Annex Housing Proposal to Get Public Input , July 17. I find the proposal to rezone the Ridgeway Annex site troubling.

With the threat of global warming on many people’s minds in recent years, governments have been looking at ways to reduce fossil fuel consumption.

This province is being ravaged by forest fires this summer, but there’s a good chance an entirely different kind of firestorm will be confronting B.C. by the time next summer comes along.

Dear Editor: Re: West Vancouver Considers BIA , July 24 front-page story. We sympathize with retailers everywhere who — despite their incredible hard work — are struggling.
