Tineke Kraal clearly misjudged the anger she would stoke when she began deliberately and repeatedly laying logs and branches across mountain bike trails on Mount Fromme. It got her name and picture in news stories across the country, and rightly so.

Dear Editor: My wife and I were babysitting our three-year-old grandson in Whistler on Monday, Dec. 21 when we received the call from a neighbour. We live in Victoria, our house was on fire.

Hear that sound? That’s the sound of new year’s resolutions everywhere breaking, snapping, being ignored.

Dear Editor: Most Canadians welcome immigrants coming to our country intending to live here, to learn our language and to participate in the life of our country.

The B.C. Liberal government’s annual budget usually contains little drama, as the bulk of it is made public as part of the three-year fiscal plan that accompanies the budget presentation every year. But this coming year may be slightly different.

It’s a no-win situation. Keep school lands in the public trust or rebuild seismically unsound schools to meet the needs of our communities.

Opposition Conservatives are calling on the Trudeau government to justify the sale of $15 billion in military vehicles to Saudi Arabia, given the country’s atrocious human rights record.
