We can practically hear the laughter emanating from the rest of snowbound Canada as the Lower Mainland struggles with snow and ice.

Dear Editor: For the first time in years, the large fir tree at the entrance to Ambleside village was lit for the holidays. What a wonderful gift to all of us who missed its welcoming lights. My heartfelt thanks to all who made it possible.

Dear Editor: I would like to send a complimentary bouquet to the hard-working crews who have plowed our streets and highways on the North Shore with such diligence during this icy festive season. Even our small side street has been well tended.

Dear Editor: Once again the papers and the news media are reporting on North Shore Rescue folk searching for those who have skied, snowboarded and snowshoed “out of bounds.

Dear Editor: Once again the North Shore sidewalks are blanketed in snow and being neglected. Not only does this make it difficult to go for a walk or get to transit and school it makes for very hazardous conditions for our children.

After the craziness that characterized so much of the political world in 2016, I suppose I should be wary of making many predictions about what to expect in the coming year. But where’s the fun in playing it safe? So here we go.

Like it or not, we’re now in an election year, so we beseech those running, regardless of party affiliation: Please make it a clean one.

Dear Editor: A big thank-you for the neatly shovelled and salted sidewalk on Ridgewood Drive.

Dear Editor: Re: West Van Sewer, Water Rates Set to Rise in 2017 , Dec. 14 news story. Coun. Mary-Anne Booth informs us that the median household spends $2.70 per day or almost $1,000 a year flushing the toilet.

Dear Editor: Tonight (Dec. 23) I ran into Lynn Valley Centre to buy some bows to finish off my Christmas packages. Suddenly I hear this angelic chorus of Christmas carols. It’s so lovely I have to stop and listen.
