THE fifth annual Strachan Hartley Legacy Run is set to hit the trails of North Vancouver this Sunday with a five-kilometre fun run and a challenging 10km trek on the menu.

The races begin at Handsworth secondary and wind their way through the roads and trails of the Capilano Highlands area before returning to Handsworth for the finish. The 10-km race challenges runners with a climb to the upper reaches of Mosquito Creek.

According to race organizers, in its first five years the run has attracted close to 1,500 participants and raised $53,000 for partner organizations that help disadvantaged youth through sport and education. Funds from this year's event will go to the Vancouverbased Streetfront alternative education program and the Take a Hike foundation. Members of both of those organizations will be participating in this year's race as runners and volunteers.

The race begins at 9: 30 a.m. on Sunday at Handsworth with registration open at 8: 30 a.m. For more information visit www.shlf. ca/run.

Dr. Strachan Hartley was a standout athlete and student from North Vancouver who died of non-Hodgkins lymphoma in 2007 at the age of 30.
