Twins from North Vancouver help Team B.C. score baseball gold at Canada Games

Two North Vancouver brothers and one coach helped Team B.C. hit gold in men’s baseball at the 2025 Canada Summer Games.

Twins Matthew and Jake McAdams suited up for the provincial team with Brooks McNiven joining the coaching staff as the B.C. boys claimed top spot at the Games held Aug. 8-25 in St. John’s, N.L. Team B.C. claimed gold with a thrilling 3-2 win over Quebec in the championship final.

B.C. played eight games in seven days in St. John's, compiling a 6-2 record that included wins over Ontario, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and P.E.I., along with a pair of victories over Quebec. Jake manned first base in several games, collecting two hits and a run in the championship final, while Matthew pitched in relief for the team. 

Both Matthew and Jake, heading into their Grade 12 years, played for the North Shore Twins senior team in the B.C. Premier Baseball League this past season.

Three other North Shore athletes also hit the podium on The Rock. West Vancouver’s Michelle Zeng scored Canada Games silver as a member of the women’s 4x200-metre freestyle swimming team.

North Vancouver’s William Millard sprang onto the podium in men’s pole vault, finishing in the bronze position. And North Van’s Ilia Maydan also earned bronze as a member of Team B.C.’s men’s basketball team.

Team B.C. finished third in the standings at the Games with 116 total medals (43 golds), trailing only Ontario with 175 and Quebec with 173 total medals.
