As Canadians, it’s our guilty pleasure to be praised by outsiders. We’re polite. We’re peace loving, tolerant and progressive. We take care of our sick. We value education. There’s also some stuff in there about beavers, hockey and Tim Hortons too.

If the prophets are correct, my deadline being before the event, when you read these words B.C.’s new rulers will be a John Horgan-Andrew Weaver coalition, on whom I bestow a coalition name – the Horers. Pronounce it carefully.

Canada, you’re looking great for your age. Ask anyone and they’ll tell you that they love it here. Ask them why and they might get a little tongue-tied. It’s OK though. Perhaps what’s great about Canada is not always having to answer that question.

The Grouse Grind has officially opened for the summer season. The trail may have opened a full six weeks later than it did last year, but that hasn’t stopped hordes of newcomers and veterans from tackling the 1,100-metre ascent.

Dear Editor: My husband and I have donated to the TB Vets key return program for many years. About a month ago, my husband came home completely frazzled, not able to find his keys. He looked “everywhere” at least three times.

Dear Editor: With summer finally here, Canadians all over Vancouver are getting out their barbecues and rushing down to the beach to get the best sunbathing spots.

Dear Editor: Re: Build a Bridge to Belcarra , June 21 Mailbox. Connecting North Vancouver to Belcarra has periodically been proposed.

It appears this province is going to get a new government and guess what: the sky will not fall and the sun will still come out (well, occasionally). There seems to be a lot of nervous hand-wringing going on as the B.C.

The North Vancouver school board trustees will decide this September whether they are ready for their closeups, when they examine filming and posting videos of board meetings online. It’s one school project deserving of an A+.
