Dear Editor: Re: Letter Flags Fare Evasion , North Shore News, April 1. Writer Allan Goudling states Neil McGregor committed an offense because he paid only $2.75 (rather than $9) for a two-zone public transit trip from YVR to Capilano University.

There’s no more sacred or noble exercise a citizen can perform than casting a ballot. Except when they don’t bother to do it.

The City of North Vancouver is considering an end to its 20-year gambling prohibition. This week the city heard from the public, a local health officer and North Van’s top cop during a policy committee meeting on the gambling subject.

Dear Editor: I pay my taxes and I pay my fares, and now I am being asked to subsidize those who don’t. The need for seeking additional funding for transit expansion is due in part to the loss of revenue from fare evasion.

Dear Editor: If the Green Party is serious about making a breakthrough in Canadian politics, it needs to come up with a better statement than that recently given by Claire Martin.

Dear Editor: I read the article in the North Shore News April 10 regarding the new traffic calming measures put in place south of Third Street. We have lived on Second Street for 18 years and the present measures are the worst thought-out actions.

Dear Editor: This paper and many others have devoted a lot of ink to the ongoing transit vote. However, nobody is writing to laud the governing B.C.

Dear Editor: My view is that the Canadian Taxpayers Federation is being given way more credit than is warranted. To me, CTF seems to be a one-pony show, running on a monorail issue of no more taxes at any cost.

There are still a couple of months to go, but I may just owe Canada an apology. If that comes to pass, I’d probably never in my life feel better about making an apology.

Dear Editor: The recent oil spill in English Bay was inevitable along with the time delay, and finger pointing by government bodies. What we need is a bold new plan to prepare and restrict the potentially affected areas from a major oil spill.
