SIX wrestlers from the North Shore's Capilano Wrestling Club fought their way onto the podium while the club's juvenile women grabbed the team title at the Canadian Cadet/Juvenile National Championships held April 5-7 in Saskatoon.
Adrienne Lu, a Grade 12 student at Sentinel secondary, set the standard for the juvenile women's (age 17-18) team by winning gold in the 80-kilogram division. She was joined on the podium by Elphinstone secondary Grade 12 student Alex Radcliff who placed second in the 70-kg class. The team posted a total of 21 points at the meet, outclassing the second place Saskatchewan Junior Huskies who racked up 16 points.
In juvenile men's action Oscar Bulaqui took home the national title in the 46-kg division. The Grade 11 student at St. Thomas Aquinas will represent Team B.C. at the upcoming Canada Summer Games.
Oscar's younger sister Karah Bulaqui also scored gold, winning the 40-kg class in the cadet (age 15-16) girls' division. The younger Bulaqui will also hit the mat for Team B.C. at the Canada Summer Games.
Ciara DiSalle, a Grade 10 student at STA, scored another medal for the Capilano club with a second place finish in the cadet girls' 49-kg division.
Rounding out the North Shore medals was Kai Sackville-Hi, a Grade 9 student at STA, who finished third in the 58-kg cadet boys division, competing as a 14-year-old against wrestlers up to 16 years of age.
