Another hometown skater is joining Vancouver’s upcoming pro hockey team.

North Vancouver’s Nina Jobst-Smith was selected by PWHL Vancouver in the third round (19th overall) of the Professional Women’s Hockey League Draft on June 24 in Ottawa.

Jobst-Smith’s selection was part of a trade with the Toronto Sceptres.

She’s one of six players drafted by the to-be-named Vancouver team for the 2027-28 season.

At 23 years old, the right-handed defender has just finished her collegiate career with University of Minnesota-Duluth. In her fifth season with the NCAA Div. 1 team, Jobst-Smith captained the squad and recorded 18 points (three goals, 15 assists) in 37 games.

In April, the dual Canadian-German citizen represented Germany for a fifth-straight year at the 2025 IIHF Women’s World Championship in Czechia.

Jobst-Smith grew up in North Vancouver, and previously played for the Okanagan Hockey Academy as well as the Greater Vancouver Comets.

On the PWHL Vancouver team, she’ll join fellow North Vancouverite Hannah Miller, who recently signed with the hometown team.
