NORTH Vancouver golf phenom Eugene Wong has been added to the roster for the VGT Golf West Van Shootout scheduled for this Friday at Gleneagles Golf Course.
The unique event pits 10 golfers - including pros and invited guests - against each other in a nine-hole shootout with one golfer eliminated after each hole.
Wong, a Handsworth grad, turned professional last summer and proceeded to win three money events in a row, including the Canadian Tour Championship. His amateur career included highlight wins at the B.C. Men's Amateur Championship and the Callaway Junior Golf World Championships as well as numerous NCAA tournament wins while playing for the University of Oregon. In 2010 he won the Jack Nicklaus Award as the top golfer in the NCAA's first division.
The Shootout, open and free to the public, begins Friday at 4 p.m.
