Southern Straits Classic sets sail Friday

THE West Vancouver Yacht Club will host the 45th annual Southern Straits Classic overnight sailing race beginning with festivities and the starting sequence on Good Friday morning at the club

The race is a challenging test of sailing skills and strategy with boats criss-crossing the Georgia Strait while facing darkness and the uncertainty of early-season sea conditions. The Classic short, medium and long courses range from 55 to 132 nautical miles while this year will see the introduction of a new inshore course that will take place duing daylight hours. The new course is designed for teams that may not be ready for the full Straits experience but are looking for a challenge beyond English Bay.

Festivities including live commentary, music from the West Vancouver Pops Band and even a visit from the Easter Bunny will be held at the club March 29 starting at 9: 30 a.m. Info: southernstraits.ca.

The clinic is running in conjunction with the Western Canada Soccer Showcase, a March

The event also includes the girlsCan Foundation 2013 Charity Gala March 28 at the Hilton Metrotown in Burnaby. To find more information on the gala and tournament or to register for the clinic visit westerncanadasoccershowcase.com.
