A record number of racers lived the Sea-to-Sky dream - or perhaps nightmare, depending on when you ask - of running from the beach to the top of a mountain in the 10th annual Seek the Peak race held Saturday.

A total of 804 runners raced the 16 kilometres - combined with 1,250 metres of elevation gain - from Ambleside beach to the top of Grouse Mountain to raise funds for the B.C. Cancer Foundation.

Shaun Stephens-Whale won the grueling ascent, finishing off the final Grouse Grind climb to post a time of 1: 25: 38. Kim Magnus was the first female finisher, clocking a time of 1: 37: 36.

Relay teams also took part with the Capilano Eagles scoring the fastest team time of 1: 30: 07 and the Booby Traps winning the top-fundraising team award with a total of $8,465.

According to event organizers, this year's race raised more than $40,000 that will go towards breast cancer research at the B.C. Cancer Agency.
