Carson, STA grab wrestling crowns

CARSON Graham and St. Thomas Aquinas fought their way to team wrestling titles during the North Shore championships held Feb. 1 at Sentinel secondary.

Carson Graham grabbed the title in an ultra-tight three-way race in the girls' division, finishing with 47 total points. STA was right behind with 46 points while Sentinel was just one point back in third place with a total of 45. STA's Chiara DeSalle, winner of the 51-kilogram division, was named the meet's outstanding wrestler.

In senior boys' (Grade 1012) action STA flipped the result, finishing first with 62 points while Carson Graham placed second with 53. Sentinel was once again third with 49 points. Windsor's Dallan Bhatti was named the most outstanding wrestler after winning the 63-kg division.

Carson Graham pinned down one more team victory in the juvenile boys' (Grade 89) division, scoring 65 points to top Collingwood by 10. STA was third with a total of 49.

STA's Kai Sackville-Hii was named most outstanding wrestler for his victory in the 57-kg division.

The provincial championships are scheduled for Feb. 28 at Cowichan secondary.
