THE Capilano Rugby Club's under-17 men's team claimed their second straight provincial title Sunday, crushing the Oak Bay Castaway Wanderers 58-10 at Klahanie Park.

Capilano got on the board in the first minute of play with centre Jake Knapton sprinting for a try to make it 5-0. The points kept coming and by halftime it was 34-0. The lead grew to 53-0 in the second half before Oak Bay, still fighting, scored two late tries to crack their goose egg.

By the time the final whistle sounded the Caps had notched nine tries, including three from Nick Allen, two from Anthony Oswald, two from Jonathan Manderson and one each from Cole Keffer and Knapton.

"They were definitely mentally prepared heading into the game," Capilano head coach Curry Hitchborn said about his players in a B.C. Rugby Union release. "What we saw today was a direct result of the work and progress they have made over the season."

The players were thrilled with the win and their execution of the game plan.

"I thought we moved the ball well, ran some hard lines and managed to keep possession," said Keffer. "CW fought hard but we really played well and to our strengths. It's amazing to see how far this team has come."

The win was the team's seventh straight since opening the season with a loss to Bayside in early September.

"We started out the season with some great athletes and over the last few months you could see their progression as rugby players," said Hitchborn. "We had a good mix of provincial reps and players with less experience and they came together and constantly challenged themselves. The season was about all of our players getting onto the pitch and figuring things out for themselves to better understand the game."
