NORTH and West Vancouver's finest athletes, top coaches and devoted sports volunteers will be on hand Tuesday night for the annual North Shore Sport Awards held at Park Royal Shopping Centre's North Mall.
The ceremony, which is open and free to the public, begins at 7: 30 p.m. (enter the doors beside the Gap store).
Star-studded categories include open male which features Olympian Zach Bell, national gymnast Scott Morgan and Los Angeles Lakers rookie Robert Sacré. The open female category boasts a pair of Olympians in Jessica Smith and Lauren Wilkinson as well as former Capilano University basketball player Jenna Ralston who on Thursday was named the College Athlete of the Year at the Sport B.C. Athlete of the Year Awards.
The youth male category also includes some big names with tennis phenom Filip Peliwo nominated along with track and field athlete Matthew Swanson and hockey players Griffin Reinhart and Morgan Rielly who were both members of Canada's national junior team for the World Junior Championships. Youth female nominees include water polo player Manon Genrey Fraser, UBC field hockey star Hannah Haughn and tennis player Alexis Prokopuik.
