If you’re on the fence about which North Shore municipal council meeting to attend Monday night, we’ll make it easy for you. There is only one.
While city hall reporters usually look forward to the fifth Monday of the month, which rarely have meetings scheduled, District of North Vancouver council has bucked the trend, with some interesting items up for discussion starting at 7 p.m.
After finalizing their 2018 budget and tax rates, council is set to vote on some big changes to its 57-year-old parks bylaw, which staff say is badly outdated. The changes relate to a range of issues and activities in the parks including illegal dumping, firearms, bicycle and skateboard use, nuisance behaviour like drinking, noise and littering, as well as rules around homeless and overnight camping.
Council has a separate item for considering new rules for community events and festivals that want permission to serve booze like Deep Cove Daze, Lynn Valley Days and Knee Knackers.
Lastly, council will consider a motion from Coun. Lisa Muri aimed at mitigating the housing unaffordability crisis. Muri is requesting staff prepare a report on the possibility of building, at minimum, 50 temporary modular housing units on Old Dollarton Road for residents facing displacement due to redevelopment of their existing rental homes.
