A driver has had his licence suspended after admitting to driving drunk in North Vancouver.
Early in the morning on Thursday, Aug. 28, the male driver crashed into a median in the Dollarton Highway area, said Cpl. Mansoor Sahak, spokesperson for North Vancouver RCMP.
As seen in photos posted online by the detachment, the driver’s black Tesla sustained significant damage to the front of the vehicle, and debris was left strewn across the roadway.
Officers who were on patrol nearby attended the scene of the crash and were approached by the driver, Sahak said.
“The driver stated that he had got into an accident, and told the officers that he was impaired,” Sahak said.
The driver was then given a roadside impairment test, which he failed.
Police then issued the man a 90-day driving suspension and impounded his car for 30 days.
Sahak said police are getting tired of having to repeat the same message, telling people to not drink and drive.
“We’ve all seen the consequences and tragedies from drinking and driving,” he said. “In this case, it’s fortunate that no one was hurt.”
But the driver still faces a suspension under the Motor Vehicle Act, and has to undergo the process to get his licence back, Sahak said.
“Drinking and driving does not end well,” he said.
“We are going to continue our efforts to stop impaired drivers, so we can ensure that people get home safely,” Sahak said. “It’s even more important as we get into fall. With the holiday season coming up, we want people to exercise their best judgment and plan for a safe ride home.”
It is not often that you come across an accident where the driver approaches officers and admits to drinking and driving before crashing. That was the case last week when officers were conducting proactive patrols and observed this accident scene. The driver was issued a 90-day… pic.twitter.com/fuQ8sZyuBv
