As a stretch of hot August weather continues, cops are trying to keep things cool on the roads.

One driver was clocked by West Vancouver police travelling more than 150 kilometres per hour in a 90 km/h zone on Highway 1.

The driver, a 30-year-old male, was first seen speeding eastbound at the Westmount exit on the Trans Canada Highway just before 7 a.m. on Thursday, said Sgt. Chris Bigland, spokesperson for West Vancouver Police Department.

After being pulled over, the motorist told police that he was speeding because he was late for work. But that will only make you later, police said.

The driver got a $483 ticket for excessive speed, and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

“The driver then chose to walk the rest of the way to work,” WVPD wrote in a social media post.

Intoxicated driver in courthouse parking lot 'a pretty direct route' to legal trouble

In a separate incident on Wednesday, a concerned citizen called 911 to report a driver showing signs of intoxication who parked in the courthouse parking lot at 200 23rd St. East., according to North Vancouver RCMP.

Officers attended the scene and tested the blood-alcohol of the driver, who failed twice.

Police said they issued the impaired driver a 90-day driving ban and their vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

“If you are looking for legal trouble, parking at the courthouse impaired is a pretty direct route,” police said.

North Van RCMP also caught a rider with a learner’s motorcycle licence, which requires that you have a supervisor present, and restricts you from driving after sunset and carrying a passenger.

But police stopped the rider, ticketing him for driving too late, carrying a passenger, having no supervisor and failing to produce a driver’s licence.

“This long weekend, play by the rules and arrive alive,” police said.
