A 35-year-old man from North Vancouver suffered “serious but non-life-threatening” injuries after he was shot in a drive-by shooting in Richmond Monday night.
Richmond RCMP rushed to a parking lot outside Tim Hortons at Richmond Centre on No. 3 Road Monday night after receiving reports of shots fired around 10:20 p.m.
“There were multiple shots fired,” said Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet of the B.C. RCMP at a press conference this week.
Mounties arrived on scene to find the North Vancouver man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Investigators believe the shooting was targeted, said Shoihet.
RCMP have not released the shooting victim’s name, but “he is known to police,” said Shoihet. “He does have a criminal record.”
He was taken to hospital in serious condition.
Witnesses who were in the area at the time of the shooting reported seeing a two-door silver sedan driving by, followed by gunshots fired by someone inside the vehicle, according to police.
The driver fled the scene.
An hour after Richmond RCMP responded to the shooting at Richmond Centre, Vancouver Police were called to the scene of a vehicle fire near Newport Avenue and Gladstone Street in South Vancouver, said Shoihet.
The vehicle matches descriptions of the sedan at the scene of the shooting provided by witnesses to Richmond RCMP.
The shooting victim remained in hospital this week.
Richmond RCMP’s serious crimes unit is continuing to investigate and is calling on anyone who was a witness or who may have been driving in the area and has dash-cam video. The number at the main detachment is 604-278-1212.
