PEGGY LEE
Cellist Peggy Lee’s new album, Echo Painting, was released on Vancouver’s Songlines Recordings on May 18. Lee will bring her music to this year’s TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival on Monday, June 25 at 9:30 p.m. at The Ironworks as part of the Innovation Series of concerts. The band will include Brad Turner - trumpet, John Bentley -  tenor/soprano saxophone, Dylan van der Schyff - drums, James Meger - bass, Cole Schmidt - guitar, John Paton - tenor sax, Meredith Bates - violin, Roderick Murray - trombone, Bradshaw Pack - pedal steel guitar.

NO MAPS ON MY TAPS
George T. Nierenberg’s 1979 documentary, No Maps on My Taps, credited with being  instrumental in the dance form’s revival, screens tonight at The Cinematheque at 7 p.m.

GANG OF YOUTHS
Gang of Youths performed “The Heart is a Muscle” off their 2017 album, “Go Farther in Lightness,” live in The Current studio last week. The Aussie band plays at the Fox Cabaret on Saturday night.

SOCCER MOMMY
Sophie Allison performed a session at WXPN’s World Cafe this week. She plays The Gorge on Sunday as part of the Sasquatch Music Festival and returns to Vancouver on Aug. 3 for a date at The Rickshaw.

FROG EYES
Carey Mercer’s indie rock band, Frog Eyes, plays tunes from their new album, Violet Psalms, at China Cloud on May 26.

LAKE STREET DIVE
Lake Street Dive performed a live session at Paste Studio in New York in April featuring songs from their new album Free Yourself Up. Every ticket purchased online for their show at the Commodore on May 29 includes a CD of the new album released May 4 on Nonesuch Records.

MOOG MATTERS
Durham, North Carolina celebrated all things electronic last weekend with Moogfest marking the birthdate of Robert Moog on May 23. Musicians who found uses for his invention early on included Kraftwerk “Autobahn” and Bernie Worrell (with Parliament/Funkadelic and Talking Heads).
