West Vancouver's Alex Kerfoot traded to Toronto Maple Leafs

West Vancouver hockey player Alex Kerfoot is on the move to one of the NHL’s Original Six teams as part of a blockbuster trade confirmed on Monday.

Kerfoot, a 24-year-old forward, and defenceman Tyson Barrie were sent from the Colorado Avalanche to the Toronto Maple Leafs along with a 2020 sixth-round draft pick in exchange for forward Nazem Kadri, defenceman Calle Rosen and Toronto’s third-round selection in the 2020 NHL Draft.

Kerfoot played two seasons with the Avalanche, notching 43 points in 79 games in 2017-18 and 42 points in 78 games in 2018-19. He also added five points in 18 career playoff games with Colorado.

Before joining the Avalanche Kerfoot played four seasons with the NCAA’s Harvard Crimson, serving as the team’s co-captain in his senior year. He was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award in 2016-17 and also earned NCAA (East) Second Team All-American, ECAC Hockey First Team, All-Ivy League First Team and New England D-I All-Star recognition, in addition to capturing the ECAC Championship. In 121 career NCAA games, he recorded 123 points, including 36 goals and 87 assists.
