A trip to the national championships ended just off the podium for the North Shore-Burnaby based Mountain United U17 boys soccer team.

The provincial champs fell in penalty kicks after battling to a 2-2 draw against Quebec’s CS St-Laurent in the bronze medal match Monday in Charlottetown, P.E.I.

Mountain United put up a 3-1 record in pool play, scoring wins over Winnipeg Bonivital SC from Manitoba, FC Regina Bluestars from Saskatchewan, and Moncton Codiac SC from New Brunswick. Their one loss in the opening round came against Ontario’s Woodbridge SC, who went on to earn silver, losing to Alberta’s Calafary Foothills FC in the final.

The North Shore players on the MUFC squad include midfielder Lucas Booth, defender Matthew Harland, centre midfielder Jordan Curlier, and goalkeepers Michael O’Flynn and David Justin Moretto. Booth, the team's co-captain, wom the tournament's Golden Boot award, scoring seven goals in the team's five games.
