Collingwood caps dominant season with provincial rugby title

The Collingwood Cavaliers capped off a dominant rugby season with a shutout win in the senior boys AA provincial final played recently in Abbotsford.

The Cavaliers charged to a 34-0 win over St. Michael’s University School Saturday, June 2 to claim their second straight B.C. AA title. Kirk Fuller, Lucas Okano and Graeme Neill scored tries as Collingwood took a commanding 20-0 lead by halftime. Neill added another in the second along with Linus Hartner as the Cavaliers cruised to a comfortable victory. The Cavaliers also received standout performances from Thomas Foote, Thomas Simon and Nate Holm.  

The win added to a dominant two-year stretch for the Cavaliers that saw the team rack up 21 wins without a single loss against provincial competition. The team’s total record for the two years was 24-4, with all four losses coming against teams from Australia.   

Elsewhere at provincials the Carson Graham Eagles finished third in the senior boys AAAA championships. Carson lost 45-12 against St. George’s in semifinal action but bounced back to score a 42-24 win over Oak Bay to claim bronze.

In AAA Tier 2 action West Vancouver made it all the way to the final where they fell 34-12 against Lord Byng.
