Children learning how to swim in West Vancouver will soon have access to a state-of-the-art new swimming pool

Pedalheads, the leaders in children’s instructional programming, is proud to announce the opening of their new custom-built, stainless steel pool inside the Park Royal Shopping Centre.

The pool is the first of its kind in North America and is slated to offer lessons this summer, starting in July.

“We’re really excited to be building our own pool in West Vancouver,” marketing manager Mike Chan says.

“It’s very unique and custom-built for teaching kids how to swim.”

Special features include the pool itself, which is made from stainless steel. Because it’s stainless steel, the pool reduces bacteria growth, establishing a more hygienic learning and swimming environment.

The pool’s L shape increases the number of shallow areas available for learning, and the depth gradually increases to cater to young children.

“There is more workable space for each kid to learn how to swim,” Chan says

Exceptionally warm pool water means that little ones will be comfortable and happy during lessons.

“The location is great for parents as well because they can drop their children off and then go to the mall for shopping or groceries,” Chan says.

This is the first pool Pedalheads has custom built for its use and it will offer lots of options in terms of times and types of lessons.

In addition to summer swimming lessons, Pedalheads is offering a Trail/Swim combo camp for campers ages four to nine to create an all-day option for parents.

This program combines a half-day Trail Camp with a two-hour Swim Camp at the brand new Park Royal pool. During the biking portion, campers will explore the paved Spirit and Capilano Pacific Trails that wind from Ambleside Park to Lonsdale Quay.

What sets Pedalheads apart is that it is so much more than just a recreational program. Its mission is to provide active programs that kids and parents love through fun, safe, and engaging instruction that develops life skills, confidence, and independence.

Pedalheads bike, swim, and sport camps help kids experience the joy of activity and instill an appreciation for nature, adventure, and community.

"We're all about building confidence and a love for swimming," Chan says.

While the children are busy having fun in their classes, which have a low student-to-teacher ratio, they’re also learning and building on their abilities, coming out of the end of the program with an overview of their new skills and what could be improved upon.

“We have specific goals when we’re working with the kids and different activities to help reach those skills,” Chan says.

“We have a very specific teaching methodology to accomplish the skills to make them proficient while making it fun for the kids as well.”

Not only does Pedalheads invest a lot of time establishing really strong programs and lessons, its staff goes through intensive training to ensure they’re providing students with the best experience possible.

“We put our staff through a rigorous training program for how to work with and teach kids,” Chan says.

“It’s about working well with them, having patience, being able to make things fun and directing their attention in certain ways. The instructors really care about the kids and develop that bond with them.”
