On Lonsdale densification: the more, the merrier

Dear Editor:

Recent letters have expressed concern over development along the Lonsdale Avenue corridor resulting in increased traffic, etc., but as the neighbourhood is well serviced by TransLink, I consider it to be an ideal area to encourage increased density.

All of the current and proposed developments are close to transit routes.

In addition, replacing archaic stores such as Extra Foods at 17th Street and the Safeway at 13th Street will greatly enhance the area.

The current stores are hardly architectural masterpieces, having been built well over 40 years ago.

Yes, in order for the developments to be economically viable, additional density and housing needs to be included in the projects; however, as previously mentioned the Lonsdale corridor is an ideal place to facilitate this.

Plans to modernize the area are to be commended, as they will make it a more vibrant place to live.
