Dear Editor:
As soon as the B.C. Government announced it was placing a moratorium on more tankers full of dilbit sailing B.C. waters, I knew Alberta Premier Rachel Notley would get her knickers in a knot.
I applaud the BC NDP and Greens for doing what the BC Liberals were afraid to do, because the stuff is loaded with toxic, flammable benzene, which could cause a widespread evacuation of a large part of Vancouver. I note that Kinder Morgan is already transporting dilbit through Burrard Inlet (a lot of people don’t realize this).
But there is a win-win here. I have written to Notley suggesting that they refine the oil sands and send those products to the Burnaby refinery for distribution to B.C. drivers. We have a shortage. It is costing us $1.47 a litre. Other people have pointed this out, but maybe now Alberta will have to listen.
