Dear editor:

To the lady who ran me down in her car on April 24th, 2025, when I was biking to work in Ambleside. I had the right of way yet you continued nonetheless through a stop sign and into the intersection at 13th Street and Esquimalt Avenue.

You have never had any courtesy to inquire how badly you injured me or my recovery. I had massive bruising, a broken rib, a smashed scapula and a devastating vertebrae compression fracture. I was in hospital overnight. I was home in bed for a month before I could find a physio who could teach me to sit up, and walk again. I have had complicated back surgery. I am three centimetres shorter and suffer from lower back pain 24 hours a day.

Vacations were cancelled, affecting others. My bike was damaged. I am restricted to shorter working hours and am on very strong painkillers. Have I heard from you? No is the answer. Were you around when my wife had to bed pan me? No. Were you around to help me learn to walk again, or assist me in dressing? No.

You have gone about your life with no regard to the person you severely and permanently injured. Is there no decency in humanity now?

With no-fault insurance, each driver may save a little less on insurance costs but if one is injured, you will be injured yet again with ICBC.

I get nothing for the pain and suffering. ICBC doesn't cover all expenses. Make sure that each of you has extra health insurance just in case.
