Dear Editor:
Re: Ferrari Driver Charged with Excessive Speed, Aug. 23 front-page story
On July 4 a driver was stopped after “allegedly” driving at high speed on the Lions Gate Bridge. The North Shore News reported that police indicated that this driver has a history of speed-related incidents. Yet it took Crown prosecutors more than six weeks to approve multiple charges against this individual.
The Supreme Court of Canada has commented in a recent decision on the “culture of complacency” that generates ongoing delays in our legal system for criminal trials. Apparently the B.C. Prosecution Service has yet to comprehend the issue. It is time that various police services in British Columbia take over the laying of charges.
