The 22-year-old driver of a Ferrari police clocked going 210 kilometres per hour across the Lions Gate Bridge last month has been charged with excessive speeding.

During the early hours of July 4, a West Vancouver police officer caught the driver making the high-speed run across the Lions Gate, in violation of its posted 60 km/h speed limit.

Charges, including excessive speeding and driving without due care and attention, were forwarded to Crown by the West Vancouver Police Department soon thereafter.

In addition, the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles also extended the white 2015 Ferrari 458’s impound time to 60 days, up from the seven-day impound that was initially doled out.

On Friday, the police department was notified that Crown was approving the excessive speeding charge.

“The allegations in this matter remain of a real significant concern to us,” said Const. Jeff Palmer, spokesman for the West Vancouver Police Department.

“(We) absolutely urge people to consider and drive at safe speeds for their own safety and for everyone’s safety. The risks rise very significantly the higher you are over the posted speed limit.”

Yihao Wang of West Vancouver is expected to make his first court appearance at North Vancouver Provincial Court Sept. 13.
