Dear Editor:

I have been working at Westview Drive at 28th Street in North Vancouver as a crossing guard for about two weeks, and have realized how bad the traffic is in the morning and afternoon peak hours. I don’t think it’s mainly the government’s fault, but it’s so jammed up that I felt kind of unsafe helping students cross the road.

I am hoping that parents can use their cars less to transport kids to school, both drop off and pick up, since I am there morning and afternoon, the kids will feel much safer and willing to walk home with or without friends. Less cars equals less pollution, and also means less traffic on the road.

I want to say something, but I don’t know where to start. So if the kids live far away, please use the bus – it’s free for under 12 years old. Parents, please let your kids be independent and walk or bike to school. It is the most green way to save our beloved planet and improve air quality.
