The Horseshoe Bay forest fire that West Vancouver and Metro Vancouver crews spent more than a week fighting appears to be mostly tamped down.
“It’s 100 per cent contained and no hotspots have been noted for the last week,” said West Vancouver Fire Department assistant chief Jeff Bush.
Still, inspectors are keeping an eye on the site looking for any further flare-ups.
The district has officially reopened the Whyte Lake trail, where the fire originally started, but the fire department is asking people not to venture into the burned-out area.
“There is hazardous terrain there,” Bush said. “There are a lot of trees down in the area.”
While it was most certainly caused by human activity, the district can’t say what the exact cause was.
