Allied Shipbuilders in North Vancouver is among three companies that have been shortlisted as potential builders of a new inland ferry for Kootenay Lake.
The three companies – which also include Western Pacific Marine Ltd. of Vancouver and Waterbridge Steel Inc. of Nakusp – will now be invited to submit proposals to design and build the new 50- to 60-vehicle ferry.
Following the bid process, work on the ferry is expected to begin in 2020 and wrap up in 2022.
According to the province, the new vessel will be configured as a hybrid diesel-electric ship. The province plans to convert the vessel to electric propulsion by 2030.
