While an an outbreak of COVID-19 at North Vancouver’s Lynn Valley Care Centre, has been deemed over, another outbreak has been declared at a North Vancouver care home.
A new outbreak has been declared at Evergreen House, a 284-bed care home next to Lions Gate Hospital, after one staff member tested positive for the virus.
Two parts of the care home, 1 south and 2 north, are affected, according to Vancouver Coastal Health information.
So far, the outbreak has been confined to one staff member at the care home. As of Tuesday, no residents at Evergreen had tested positive.
“A VCH medical health officer is leading the response and is working closely with staff to ensure appropriate precautions are in place for the safety of all. All residents are being closely monitored for symptoms,” said Vancouver Coastal Health spokeswoman Carrie Stefanson.
Stefanson said infection control measures have been put in place.
An outbreak at North Vancouver's Lions Gate Hospital, in the 6th floor east general ward, is also continuing.
As of Tuesday, a total of 20 people associated with that ward, including 11 patients and nine staff, had tested positive for COVID-19.
Stefanson said the hospital has stepped up infection control measures, which include closing the ward to admissions, transfers and discharges of patients. Staff who work on that ward have also been restricted from working in other wards in the hospital or other health care facilities. Staff are also required to wear personal protective equipment, including masks and gloves, for all patient interactions.
Stefanson said health authorities are not aware of any connection between the outbreak at Lions Gate Hospital and the neighbouring Evergreen House care home.
Other North Shore care homes still on the active outbreak list include Berkley Care Centre and Amica’s Edgemont seniors home.
