Meet the first North Shore baby of the New Year

The North Shore’s first citizen to make an entrance in 2020 could have been a Christmas baby instead of a New Year’s baby. Christine Thornton and Paul Kell, of North Vancouver, had originally been given Dec. 25 as the likely due date for their baby.

The North Shore’s first citizen to make an entrance in 2020 could have been a Christmas baby instead of a New Year’s baby.

Christine Thornton and Paul Kell, of North Vancouver, had originally been given Dec. 25 as the likely due date for their baby.

But their daughter had other ideas, and was in no hurry to make an appearance.

At almost a week overdue, Thornton had labour induced at Lions Gate Hospital, but after the baby didn’t respond well to that, the couple and their doctors opted for a C-section delivery.

Theodora Kell was born at 7:16 p.m. Jan. 1, weighing seven pounds and 14 ounces.

Theodora – who is the first child for the couple – has since settled down to a newborn routine of eating, sleeping and cuddling, said Kell. “She loves being held.”
