Bouquets of tulips say thanks to workers at North Van care homes

Nothing says spring like tulips. This week, bouquets of the spring flowers also said thanks to front-line healthcare workers at some of North Vancouver’s hard hit long-term care homes.

On Wednesday, 5,000 bouquets of tulips were dropped off to over 20 care homes, retirement residents and hospitals throughout the Lower Mainland, including Lynn Valley and Berkley care centres and Amica’s Edgemont retirement home in North Vancouver.

The tulips were a gift from the Dutch Liberation 2020 Canadian Association, associated with the Dutch consulate, which used grant money to have bulbs planted in the fall by Van Noort Bulb Co. Ltd.

On Wednesday the bouquets of tulips were dropped off to thank health care workers who have been on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic and to brighten to day for seniors who’ve been isolated from their families and friends under infection control measures that have ended visits at local care facilities.

The tulips are also intended to honour World War II Canadian veterans who helped to liberate the Netherlands, 75 years ago.
