NORTH Vancouver's Carla Wyman played a big role in helping the Simon Fraser University women's basketball team to a milestone victory March 1 as the Clan earned the first playoff win for the program since they joined the NCAA's second division.

The Argyle grad scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds as SFU defeated Seattle Pacific University 69-61 in the opening round of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference tournament in Lacey, Wash.

"Carla had one of the best games of her career," head coach Bruce Langford said in a release. "Overall it was a big test that the kids responded to nicely."

Wyman's biggest contribution of the night came with 1: 15 left in the fourth quarter when she knocked home a three-pointer to give the Clan a seven-point lead.

"We knew we had an opportunity to advance in a loseand-you're-out situation," said Wyman. "We came out and played hard, especially early on. It was a bit of a roller coaster game but we ended up pulling it off."

The following night the Clan's season came to an end as they lost 74-70 to Alaska Anchorage, the eight-ranked Div. 2 team in the country. Wyman was strong again in a losing effort, scoring 13 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter.
