North Vancouver native Lauren Wilkinson helped power Canada’s women’s eight team onto the podium at the World Rowing Championships Sept. 6 in Aiguebelette, France.
The Canadians won bronze, finishing third behind their archrivals from the United States who won gold and the New Zealand crew who nipped Canada at the line to take silver.
“The event has really become competitive ... everyone is so close, it’s great to see.” Wilkinson said in a Rowing Canada release, adding that gold will still be the goal when the top rowers in the world meet again in a year at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. “We use this as fuel to fire up the next twelve months of training.”
