UBC's Young named Canada West all-star

NORTH Vancouver's Kris Young was recently named to the Canada West All-star second team after her stellar season with the University of British Columbia women's basketball team.

The second-year player led the Thunderbirds in scoring and finished third in the conference with a 15.3 points-per game average. The Handsworth grad also finished 12th in rebounding, fifth in assists and fourth in free-throw percentage in the conference as UBC placed first in Canada West's Pacific division.

The Thunderbirds went on to win the Canada West title, beating the Regina Cougars 78-59 with Young leading the team with 18 points in the victory March 3 in Regina. With the win UBC advanced to the CIS national championships scheduled for March 16-19 in Calgary.
