Swimmer scores six national age-group golds

NORTH Vancouver's James Dergousoff won six individual gold medals in the 14-year-old division at the Canadian Age Group Swimming Championships held earlier this month in Montreal

Dergousoff won gold in the 50-m, 100-m and 200-m breaststroke, 100-m butterfly and 200-m and 400-m medley races setting personal bests in each race while breaking two provincial age-group records.

Dergousoff races for North Vancouver's Chena Swim Club. The age group nationals attracted 1,700 swimmers from 220 clubs across Canada.

West Vancouver senior Christa Bortignon kept up her winning ways at the 2011 U.S.A. Masters Outdoor Track and Field Championships held July 28-31 in Berea, Ohio.

The holder of several Canadian records in the 70+ age category claimed eight gold medals and set four new national records at the U.S. championships.

Bortignon won the 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 200-m hurdles, high jump, long jump, triple jump and pentathlon while setting new Canadian records in the pentathlon and 200-m hurdles and breaking her own records in the 100 m and long jump.

The 74-year-old ran the 100m race in 16.16 seconds.
