NORTH Vancouver's Scott Richmond and all of his teammates from Canada's 2011 senior national baseball team will be inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame this Saturday during a ceremony in St. Marys, Ont.
With Richmond on the pitching staff the national team claimed bronze at the International Baseball Federation's 2011 World Cup held in Panama before going on to earn a stunning upset of the United States in the gold medal final of the Pan American Games in Mexico.
Richmond played a big part in Canada's historic win at the Pan Am Games. In the championship final Richmond replaced starter Andrew Albers with runners on first and third and two out in the sixth inning with Canada holding on to a 2-1 lead over the United States. He induced a fly ball to end the threat and then shut down the U.S. team the rest of the way, striking out the final batter to earn an extended save and clinch the first major international gold medal the Canadian baseball team has ever won at the senior level.
Richmond made 32 appearances with the Toronto Blue Jays, including 29 starts, during the 2008 and 2009 seasons and is currently pitching for the club's AAA affiliate, the Las Vegas 51s of the Pacific Coast League.
