WEST Vancouver's Sam Reinhart was named captain of Canada's national men's summer U18 hockey team on Monday, the opening day of the 2012 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament.

Team Canada is attempting to win its fifth consecutive title in the annual tournament which pits U18 teams from the world's top hockey countries against each other in a summer tournament. The Canadians opened the event with a 41 win over Switzerland on Monday and followed that up with a 7-5 victory over Sweden Tuesday. Slovakia is also in Canada's group for the preliminary round.

The top two teams from Group A and B will cross over in semifinals on Friday with bronze and gold medal games scheduled for Saturday.

Reinhart was named the Western Hockey League's rookie of the year for the 2011-12 season after notching 28 goals and 34 assists for 62 points in 67 games with the Kootenay Ice.
