Peliwo makes Wimbledon junior boys final

Third straight Grand Slam final for North Vancouver teen

North Vancouvers Filip Peliwo will get his third chance to claim a junior Grand Slam tennis title on Sunday as he takes on Australian Luke Saville in the Wimbledon junior boys singles final.

Peliwos amazing run through the 2012 Grand Slam circuit continued Friday when he defeated Mitchell Krueger of the United States 5-7, 7-6(3), 6-3 in the Wimbledon semifinal. Peliwo fought off five match points in the second set before battling back to make his third straight Grand Slam final.

The 18-year-old, however, has not yet managed to take the final step, losing both the 2012 Australian Open and French Open finals. He is attempting to become the first Canadian ever to win a Grand Slam singles title and will be facing a familiar foe at the all-England Club. It was Saville, the top-ranked junior in the world, who defeated Peliwo on home soil at the Australian Open. Peliwo is ranked No. 4 in the world.
