Six North Shore teams hit the podium at BC Soccer Provincial Championships recently, led by a pair of girls teams that tasted gold at the A Cup level.

The U15 girls A Cup championships, held in Surrey July 6-9, saw a pair of North Shore teams make the final four with the North Shore Girls Soccer Club claiming gold and West Van SC earning bronze. The NSGSC U15 girls earned provincial supremacy with a 2-0 win over the Upper Island Storm in the championship game. The team rebounded after losing their first game 4-1 against West Van, winning their next three contests while outscoring their opponents 11-2.

West Van, meanwhile, tied for top spot in pool play with a 2-1 record but were dropped to the bronze medal match on goal differential. They claimed third place with a 3-2 win in penalty kicks over Surrey Guildford United and also earned the tournament’s Fair Play Team Award.

West Van SC did score gold at the U13 girls A Cup level, knocking off CCB Elite 2-1 in a shootout in the championship final. The win avenged a 3-1 loss to CCB Elite in pool play. The West Van SC U13 squad also earned the Fair Play award.

On the boys side West Van FC earned silver in the U16 A Cup tournament, losing 4-1 against the PMO AC Selects in the final. The West Van boys topped the standing with two wins and one tie in pool play but couldn’t hold on for gold in the final.

At the B Cup level the North Shore Girls Interceptors claimed top spot at the U13 level, knocking off the Surrey United Hurricanes 1-0 in the gold medal match. The North Shore girls were perfect in the tournament, winning all four of their games while outscoring their opponents 11-0. Goalkeeper Ella Rohani made the play of the tournament, stopping a penalty shot late in the second half of the final to preserve the one-goal win.

At the Les Sinnott Memorial Provincial Cup the North Vancouver Surge of NVFC claimed silver in the U16 boys B Cup. The Surge won their group with a record of two wins and one tie before falling 2-1 to the North Coquitlam Hammers in the championship final.
