Dozens of young North Shore soccer players and their parents have plenty to celebrate this season with several teams securing provincial trophies and qualifying for nationals.
On June 21, the North Vancouver Football Club U15 premier girls team won their provincial championship after beating Vancouver United FC in penalty kicks, following a 1-1 tie in regulation.
Keeper Jacqueline Cuthill stopped an incredible three penalties for her team. She will join the Vancouver Rise FC soccer academy in the fall.
But before that, her team will travel to Vaughn, Ont. at the end of August to take on the best teams from across Canada in the national 2025 Player-Development Program Championship.
Also playing in that tournament is Burnaby FC’s premier U17 boys team, which qualified for nationals after a second-place finish at the provincial tourney. While the team has Burnaby in its name, 15 of the 19 players on the roster live on the North Shore. That’s because the players were part of the former Mountain United club before the name change in 2023, and NVFC doesn’t yet field a premier team for that age group.
The NVFC Selects won their U17 Boys A Cup (Metro) provincials, and are heading to the 2025 National Championships U-17 Cup in Kamloops in October.
And the NVFC Mavericks clinched the U15 Boys B Cup, and will end their post-season basking in the glow of glory as there is no national tourney for their division.
The North Shore Girls Soccer Club’s Impact squad will also cap the year as champions, after winning their U14 Girls A Cup.
