New name, same old Classic basketball

Argyle and Windsor will carry the North Shore flag in senior boys action with the Pipers hitting the floor Wednesday at 2: 30 p.m. for an opening-round road game at Sir Charles Tupper and the Dukes travelling to White Rock Christian Academy Wednesday for a 4: 15 p.m. matchup against R.C. Palmer.

Three North Shore teams will battle in the senior girls division Wednesday with Argyle opening their tournament against Hugh Boyd at Britannia at 4: 15 p.m., Seycove taking on Kitsilano at York House at 4: 15 p.m. and Handsworth facing John Oliver at 5: 15 p.m. at New Westminster secondary.

The North Shore's 3D Basketball Academy has teams entered into both the boys and girls elementary divisions with a Monday-Wednesday tournament for the boys at Vancouver College and a Monday-Tuesday girls event at Killarney secondary.

The innovative Classic tournament also has divisions for First Nations, night hoops, wheelchair and youth with developmental challenges teams as well as a cheer and dance competition. The event concludes with a day of championship finals running from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at UBC's War Memorial Gym. The North Shore-based Quinn Keast Foundation will again be awarding a $3,000 Most Complete Player scholarship in both the senior boys and girls divisions.
