The newly created North Shore Floorball club will hold an open house Saturday, Oct. 22 to allow members of the community to come out and try the popular European sport that provides a new take on the old Canadian classic street hockey.

Floorball is a hockey-like sport played in a gymnasium with lightweight sticks and balls that are much more floor-friendly than traditional street hockey equipment. Floorball gear lends itself well to fancy lacrosse-like stick moves, hard shots and creative play.

North Shore Floorball bills itself as the first community-based, non-profit floorball club in British Columbia. Their open house will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Lions Gate Academy, 925 Harbourside Dr. in North Vancouver. Youth and adult league games will be part of the event.
