WEST Vancouver golfer Alix Kong finished third at the British Columbia Junior Girls Championship played July 10-13 at Osoyoos Golf and Country Club, winning a playoff to secure the third and final provincial berth in the Royal Cup Canadian Junior Girls' Championship.

Anica Yoo of Port Coquitlam and Taylor Kim of Surrey stole the show with scores of -11 and -7, respectively, in the four-round tournament while Kim finished in a tie for third with Madison Kapchinsky of Kelowna at +8.

The 15-year-old Kong then had to face Kapchinsky, 17, in a sudden death playoff to decide which player would join Yoo and Kim at nationals. Kong didn't wait long to claim the spot, birdying the first sudden-death hole to win the playoff.

The national championships will be held July 31-Aug. 3 at the River Spirit Golf Club in Calgary.
