Hitmen take NV's Thrower in bantam draft

Josh Thrower, a 15-year old North Vancouver resident, was recently drafted 23rd overall by the Calgary Hitmen in the 2011 Western Hockey League bantam draft

Thrower, a six-foot, 172-pound defenceman, attended a 10month program at the Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy in Kelowna this past season. He amassed 23 points, eight goals and 15 assists, in 46 games. In 2009-10 he won a provincial championship while playing for the North Shore Winter Club.

In August, Thrower and 41 other bantam-aged players will attend the NHLPA-hosted Allstate All Canadian Mentorship Program. The program is for players that scouts have identified to be the best in Canada.

Because Thrower is not yet 16 he will be ineligible to play in the WHL this year. He hopes to play for the North West Giants in B.C.'s Major Midget League.
