SAM Mulligan, a racer with the Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club, took home the Dave Murray award as the top Canadian male at the 20th annual Whistler Cup held earlier this month.
Mulligan, a Vancouver resident, claimed two podium finishes in the event, placing third in slalom and second in giant slalom, while just missing a third medal with a fourth-place finish in Super G. His combined points total placed him first in the overall standings to earn him the prestigious Dave Murray award.
"It's nice to be able to wear Canada's colours and walk around representing Canada," Mulligan said in a release. "It's cool because you look into the future and imagine what it would be like to be on the World Cup (circuit) and you can dream about that."
North Vancouver's Cameron Alexander, competing for the Whistler Mountain Ski Club, took home silver in the Super G race.
The Rio Tinto Alcan Whistler Cup is a prestigious alpine event for racers from around the world competing in the K2 (age 13-14) category. This year's 20th anniversary race featured former racers such as North Vancouver's Robbie Dixon and Manuel Osborne-Paradis and West Vancouver's Michael Janyk returning to take in the festivities.
